An exciting project is the new Mount Barker Hospital – a $220m development that will include 102 beds, 68 more than the hospital’s current capacity. Set to be built on the site of Mount Barker’s existing hospital, initial works are expected to commence this year with completion expected in 2027.

Premier Peter Malinauskas told The Advertiser that the Hills were rapidly growing and extra hospital services were an important plan of the government’s plan to address ramping.

“A bigger and better Mount Barker hospital is exactly what the local community has been calling for, and we are getting on with the job of delivering this important election commitment,” he said.

New Distillery in Nairne

Due to a reported “demand for a sophisticated drinking environment” in the region, the award-winning Tin Shed Distilling Company has submitted a development application for a new facility at Nairne, set to produce gin, whisky and rum.

If the application is successful, the distillery would see the old freezer on the former Chapman’s Meatworks site on Princes Highway transformed into a manufacturing facility with a cellar door attached, operating seven days a week.
